The fatal accident occurred just before 6 a.m. in the 5500 block of East U.S. 40, east of Greenfield, Ind.
A woman driving a Cadillac Escalade told police she was on her way to work when she passed a dumpster truck. She said that is when she noticed the pedestrian in her lane but said it was too late to stop.
Police said the pedestrian, later identified as 19-year-old Cory Whitten, was wearing dark clothing.
Whitten was pronounced dead on the scene.
